he University of Chicago volleyball team kicked off the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1 with victories over New York University and Brandeis University on Saturday.

The Maroons improved to 17-7 on the season and 2-0 in UAA action.

UChicago 3, NYU 1 (26-24, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21)

UChicago edged NYU by only two points in the first set before cruising to a nine-point win in the second set. The Violets rallied back in the third 25-21 and the Maroons returned the favor by the same score in the deciding fourth set. The two teams were almost identical in kills (55-54), but UChicago hit for a .155 attack percentage while NYU hit .119.

The Maroons set a new season-high with 12 team blocks, as freshman Taylor David contributing seven block assists herself in the middle. Junior outside hitters Maren Loe and Jasmine Mobley smacked 17 kills each. Junior setter Ragine Graves exceeded 40 assists in a match for the eighth time this season. Sophomore libero Mary Claire Tuohy established a new season high with 27 digs on defense.

UChicago 3, Brandeis 0 (25-6, 29-27, 25-15)

The Maroons came out on fire in the opening set versus the Judges, spiking 10 kills on 17 attempts with only one error to win by 19 points. After going into extra points in the second set (29-27), UChicago finished off the match in straight sets (25-15).

UChicago totaled 33 kills and a .194 attack percentage. The team served up 10 aces and held Brandeis to a -.018 attack percentage (23 kills, 25 errors).
