From University of Rochester Athletics
Rochester will play Case Western Reserve for fifth place
in the University Athletic Association volleyball championships on
Saturday morning after defeating NYU in the consolation
round.
The Yellowjackets won three in a row after losing the first
set to NYU, 25-19. Rochester evened the match with a 25-18 win in
set two, forged ahead with a 25-22 win in the third set, and moved
into the fifth place match after a 25-21 victory in the fourth
set.
In the opening round, the Yellowjackets lost, 3-0, to Emory
University (25-15, 25-10, 25-10). Case lost its opener to Chicago
3-1, then defeated Brandeis, 3-0, in the consolation bracket. In
the round robin earlier this year, Case defeated Rochester, 3-0.
NYU posted a 3-0 victory over the Yellowjackets as well.
Against NYU, Jennie Ford had 10kills, 17 digs, and four of
Rochester's 11 servie aces. Ashley Hunter and Meghan Connor had
three aces each. Emma Gira had six kills and two blocks. Xiaoyi Li
had 31 assists and 16 digs.
Alexandra Nelligan registered six kills. Hunter had 14 digs
and Connor had seven. Allie Fredrickson had two blocks.
The kill leaders against Emory were Michaela Chan with six
and Aimee Kohler with five. Li had 13 assists. Hunter had 11 digs,
Ford had seven, and Connor had six.
Rochester carries a 17-18 record into the fifth place match
Saturday.
