Washington University in St. Louis volleyball head coach Vanessa Walby has announced the hiring of Ashlee Rust as the program's first full-time assistant coach.
Rust joins the Washington U. coaching staff after spending the past two seasons as the assistant coach at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During her two seasons at Coe, the Kohawks posted a 53-18 record, including a school-record 33 wins in 2013. Coe finished as the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) runner-up in both seasons, and had a total of nine individuals earn all-conference honors in Rust's two seasons as an assistant coach.
"I am very excited to have Ashlee join our staff," Walby said. "She is a very outgoing, hardworking individual, and is extremely passionate about the game and NCAA Division III. Her experience with recruiting, our league and our division make her a great addition to our program. I believe she is the last piece of the puzzle that will complete our program and continue to move us in a positive direction."
Rust was a three-year team captain at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo., where she earned AVCA Division II All-America Honorable Mention and All-South Central Region honors in 2010. She was also selected to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) all-conference third-team in 2010 after receiving honorable mention accolades in 2008. Rust finished her career ranked 10th in MSSU history with 1,024 kills. She also excelled off the court, being named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll all four years.
A native of Ponce de Leon, Mo., Rust earned her bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in broadcasting from Missouri Southern State University in December 2009. She added a second bachelor's degree in public relations in December 2010. Rust then completed her Master of Arts in communication from Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., in July 2012.
