After dropping their season opener to Babson, 3-0, the Brandeis University volleyball team rallied to defeat Colby-Sawyer College, 3-2, in a two-hour match. The Judges are now 1-1 on the season.
VS. BABSON
- Facing an NCAA-Tournament squad, the Judges got off to a slow start, but picked it up in the second and third sets, falling 25-9, 25-14, 25-17.
- Rookie middle hitter Kirsten Frauens (New York, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) led the Judges with seven kills and a .412 hitting percentage, but no other Brandeis player hit better than .100.
VS. COLBY-SAWYER
- The Chargers twice took a one-set lead, but the Judges answered each time.
- After falling 21-25 in the first, Brandeis won 25-18 in the second.
- The hosts edged ahead, 25-23 in the third, but the Judges took a 25-17 fourth.
- Brandeis scored the first six points of the fifth set en route to a 15-7 clinching win.
- Offensively, rookie outside hitter Shea Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles , Calif. / Marymount) recorded her first double-digit kill match with 10.
- Senior middle hitter Maddie Engeler (Huron, Ohio / St. Mary Central Catholic) contributed eight kills and a team-high five block assists.
- Rookie setter Leah Pearlman (El Paso, Texas / El Paso) had a terrific all-around match: 20 assists, 6 kills, .455 hitting percentage and 5 service aces.
