The Brandeis volleyball team snapped a six-match losing streak today in the opener of a tri-match with a 3-0 sweep of Simmons College, 25-14, 25-22, 25-21. The Judges were unable to keep the momentum going in their second match falling to Roger Williams, 19-25, 14-25, 19-25.

VS. SIMMONS

  • Against the Sharks, Brandeis hit .129 (28 K-16 E-93 TA), their second-highest percentage of the season (.148 vs Southern Maine).
  • They also had seven blocks, two shy of a season high (9 vs Colby-Sawyer), led by four block assists from senior middle hitter Maddie Engeler (Huron, Ohio / St. Mary Central Catholic).
  • Rookie outside hitter Grace Krumpack (Cincinnati, Ohio / Colerain) led the way offensively with eight kills and a .200 hitting percentage (8 K-3 E-25 TA), while Engeler had six kills and a .333 percentage (6 K-2 E-12 TA)
  • Krumpack also tied for match-high honors with classmate libero Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) with 15 digs.
  • Rookie setter Allison Harmsworth (Bradenton, Fla / Newsome) contributed 18 assists.
  • Simmons' Cailin Frederick led everyone with nine kills, while Andalyn Duke added 19 assists.
  • Brandeis coach Alesia Vaccari coached for four years at Simmons before coming to Brandeis in 2014.

VS. ROGER WILLIAMS

  • Krumpack and Harmsworth each set career highs, with 13 kills and 24 assists, respectively.
  • It wasn't enough to overcome a Hawk squad that was efficient on the attack (.234, 30 K-12 E-77 TA) and with their block (10 total blocks, 2 solo).
  • Krumpack hit better than .200 for the third time all season (13 K-6 E-34 TA).
  • Her previous career-high had been 12 kills against Wellesley.
  • Harmsworth matched her career-best in assists, which came against Endicott.
  • RWU's Nicole Weber led the Hawks with 18 assists, while Molly Quilty had seven kills and seven blocks (one solo) for the visitors.
  • Hawk coach Danielle Soubliere was an assistant under Vaccari and was head coach at Simmons in 2014 before landing the Roger Williams position.
