No. 24 Tartans Sweep Through Two Matches at Juniata

The 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team swept through two matches at Juniata College on Saturday, October 24, defeating Geneva College and Bridgewater College by 3-0 scores. The Tartans are now 24-6 on the year.

In the day's opening match against Geneva, the Tartans defeated the Golden Tornadoes by game scores of 25-16, 30-28, and 25-14. Freshman Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy) led with 14 kills while junior Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) collected 41 assists. Junior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) led with 19 digs while freshman Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas/Allen) had 16 digs.

In the team's final match of the weekend, the Tartans defeated Bridgewater 25-20, 25-11 and 25-16. Junior Casey Salandra (Carol Steam, Ill./St. Francis) led the offense with 10 kills while Newton collected 23 assists and sophomore Amanda Thiele (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins) picked up 15 assists. Higgins again led with 11 digs while junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) had one block solo and four block assists. Salandra also picked up three block assists.
