Tartans End UAA Round Robin Play With a Split

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team ended play Sunday, October 18 splitting a pair of matches at the second University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin hosted by Case Western Reserve University. The Tartans opened play Sunday with a 3-0 win over University of Rochester before dropping a 3-0 contest to top ranked Washington University. Carnegie Mellon has a 4-3 mark in UAA play and an overall record of 22-5.
    
Against the Yellowjackets, where the Tartans won by the scores of 25-18, 25-14, 25-22, three Tartans recorded double-digits in kills. Leading the way was sophomore Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) with 13.  Freshmen Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy) and Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn.) each added 10 in the win. Junior setter Emily Newton(Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) handed out 37 assists.

Defensively, junior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) led with 15 digs as Mueller recorded 11 and had two block assists. Donohue joined Mueller with a presence at the next collected two block assists of her own and tabbed one block solo.

In the Tartans setback to Washington, Jurgens totaled six kills while junior Jackie Gibbons(Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and Mueller each had five. Higgins once again added 15 digs as Donohue and Jurgens each tabbed three block assists with Donohue adding a block solo.
