CWRU Completes 4-0 Weekend at Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team went 2-0 on the second day of the DoubleTree Invitational hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (Pa.) after defeating Stevenson 3-0 and Westminster 3-1, finishing the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.

The Spartans improved to 14-1 for the 2015 season.

In a tight match against Stevenson, CWRU won in straight sets 25-23, 25-17 and 25-23.

Senior outside hitter Carolyn Bogart led the Spartan attack with a season-high 20 kills, while junior outside hitter Marian Barton added 13. Freshman setter Shannon Carroll tallied 42 assists. Defensively, senior libero Katie Best recorded 17 digs and Carroll added 10.

After dropping the first set against Westminster 25-21, CWRU fought back to win the next three 31-29, 25-23 and 25-16.

Senior middle hitter Haley Kauffman paced the attack with 14 kills. Bogart, Barton and junior middle hitter Kayla Pfaff each recorded 12 kills. Carroll recorded 49 assists. Best and freshman defensive specialist Karina Bondelid contributed with 14 and 12 digs, respectively, while Bogart and junior defensive specialist Lauren Anderson each tallied 11.
