Spartans Sweep Opening Day of Otterbein Classic

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team picked up a pair of wins at the Otterbein Classic in Westerville, Ohio on Friday, defeating Kenyon College 3-0 in the early match, followed by a 3-1 victory over host Otterbein College in the late affair.

The Spartans kept their undefeated record for the season intact with the two wins, improving to 3-0 on the year.

CWRU was dominant against Kenyon, hitting .276 for the match, en route to winning 25-19, 25-8, 25-16.  The Spartans' performance was highlighted by a .417 attack percentage in the second set.

Senior Robyn Marks led the team with 30 assists and added on 12 digs in the match, while senior Katie Best notched a squad-best 17 digs.  Junior Marian Barton paced the Spartans with a team-best 13 kills in the match.

Kenyon dropped to 1-1 on the year with the loss.

CWRU would go on to earn the four-set victory over Otterbein, bouncing back from a 25-19 loss in the first set to win the next three in a row, 25-22, 25-22, 26-24.  Senior Haley Kauffman collected 12 of the team's 30 kills in the match, and senior Carolyn Bogart led the Spartans with 17 digs.

The loss dropped Otterbein's record to 1-2 for the campaign.
