Spartans Earn Pair of 3-0 Victories on First Day of UAA Round Robin #2

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team, hosts of the University Athletic Association Round Robin #2, earned a pair of 3-0 victories against the New York University Violets and the No. 15 University of Chicago Maroons on the first day of competition.

The Spartans improved their record to 20-4 overall and 4-1 in the UAA, while NYU fell to 10-12 total and 0-5 in the UAA and Chicago dropped to 14-7 for the season and 2-3 in the UAA.

Against NYU, senior middle hitter Haley Kauffman led the Spartan attack with a .370 hitting percentage with 13 kills and added four blocks. Senior outside hitter Carolyn Bogart recorded 10 kills and a team-high 16 digs in the match. Freshman setter Shannon Carroll tallied a season-high seven kills, contributed a team-high 17 assists and added four blocks. Senior setter Robyn Marks finished with 16 assists senior libero Katie Best recorded 15 digs, and freshman defensive specialist Andrea Lu added 11 digs. 

In the win over No. 15 Chicago, the Spartans were led by Bogart and Kauffman on the attack. Bogart recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs. Kauffman finished 11 attacks, a .476 hitting percentage, and five blocks. Carroll and Marks recorded 18 and 16 assists, respectively. Best was again busy in the back row, recording 23 digs against the Maroons. Lu tallied 16 digs, while Marks matched Bogart with 13 digs.
