Spartans Split on Day 1 of UAA Round Robin #1 With Win Over No. 21 Carnegie Mellon

On the first day of the University Athletic Association Round Robin #1, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split, with a win over No. 21 Carnegie Mellon University and a loss to No. 3 Emory University.

The first UAA Round Robin is hosted by New York University at the Coles Sports Center in New York City.

The Spartans improve to 15-2 overall and 1-1 in the UAA, while the Tartans are now 19-3 overall and 1-1 in the UAA and the Eagles record is now 19-2 overall and 2-0 in the UAA.

CWRU defeated Carnegie Mellon in three straight sets 25-22, 25-19 and 25-16.

Senior captain and outside hitter Carolyn Bogart led the Spartans with 13 kills and senior middle hitter Haley Kauffman contributed nine kills to the attack. Senior setter Robyn Marks and freshman setter Shannon Carroll recorded 20 and 13 assists, respectively. Defensively, senior libero Katie Best tallied 17 digs and junior defensive specialist Lauren Anderson added 15 to the stats.

Against the Eagles, CWRU fell 25-22, 25-20 and 25-17.

In the hard-fought battle, Kauffman led the Spartans with 12 kills, while Marks and Carroll added 13 and 12 assists, respectively. Best led the defensive rally with 19 digs with Anderson adding 11.
