Eagles Roll To A Pair Of Friday Wins At Emory Volleyball Classic

The No. 1-ranked Emory volleyball team turned in a pair of impressive performances on the opening day of the Emory Volleyball Classic, allowing it to remain undefeated.  The Eagles posted 3-0 triumphs over Covenant College (25-11-25-16, 25-16) and Johns Hopkins (25-20, 25-12, 25-11), and in the process upped their season record to 7-0.

Emory's offense was extremely efficient in both contests, blasting away a combined hitting percentage of .423 (88-13-177) while limiting the two opponents to a paltry .014.  In addition, the Eagles totaled 106 digs on the day compared to the opposition's 67.

Junior Kathryn Trinka paced the team's offensive attack in both affairs, tying her second-highest career total with 15 kills in the Covenant match, while hitting a team-best .538 (15-1—26), before rounding out the day with 13 terminations against  Johns Hopkins, her seventh straight double-figures kills performance.  Freshman Karissa Dzurik hit.429 in both outings, finishing with a combined total of 14 kills and just two errors in 28 swing opportunities. Freshman Sydney Leimbach pounded out nine kills against Covenant, followed by four terminations in as many attempts and three blocks against the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins.  Freshman Becky Breuer topped the squad with back-to-back performances of 13 digs, while senior setter Sydney Miles doled out 72 assists, 43 coming in the opener against Covenant.
