NYU Wins Season Opener

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's volleyball team opened its 2015 season with an exciting five-set win over the Hunter College Hawks on Wednesday, September 2, at the Hunter Sportsplex in Manhattan.

The Violets (1-0) pulled out the five-set thriller against the Hawks (0-1) with scores of 25-17, 26-28, 25-16, 24-26, 15-12.

NYU took command early in the first set, scoring the first two points and never trailing.

A 6-1 streak by the Hawks (0-1) late in the second set gave them the advantage.

Strong serving by the Hawks gave them an early lead in the third set, but three aces by NYU libero Brooke Tannahill turned the momentum back around, leading the Violets to victory.

NYU dropped the fourth set despite leading by as many as five points.

In the final set, neither team led by more than two points before Rayne Ellis' kill sealed the deal.

"Victory is sweet, no matter what steps it takes to claim it," Head Coach Jolie Ward said.
