NYU Splits Day One of Ducks Classic

The New York University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on day one of the Ducks Classic on Friday, September 18, in Hoboken, NJ. The tournament is being hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology.

The Violets (6-6) began with a three-set sweep (27-25, 25-19, 25-18) of the Kean University Cougars (8-5).
 
Patricia Stirb contributed to the NYU victory, totaling nine kills and three blocks for the match. Daryl Mitchell led the Violets with 36 assists.

"Mitchell did a good job today. She is taking a larger leadership role on the court and is growing as a player," Head Coach Jolie Ward said.

NYU's second match was a close 3-0 loss (25-23, 25-23, 26-24) to the Endicott College Gulls (7-5).

"The team is continuing to grow every match, and despite the loss there were a lot of positives to take from tonight's matches," Ward said.

FIRST MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
 
Alexis Jackson and Shelby King each finished the contest with 10 kills.

Celine Das contributed three aces.

SECOND MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

Brooke Tannahill notched 31 digs.

- Mitchell totaled 32 assists.

- Jackson recorded 13 kills.
