Balance Leads Rochester Past Cazenovia

With nine players registering  a kill, Rochester swept Cazenovia College, 3-0, in the Louis Alexander Palestra on Friday evening. The victory snaps a four-match losing streak and improves Rochester's record to 9-6. Cazenovia is 4-7.

Rochester struggled to a 25-18 win in the first set. The Yellowjackets rode a 6-0 run to pull free from a 15-all tie. Nina Baek earned a kill to snap the 15-15 tie. Then she served five straight points – two aces, a pair of kills by Alexandra Nelligan, and a kill from Emma Gira. She gave Cazenovia possession with an attack error which was followed by an attack error from Nelligan.  Gira and Aimee Kohler combined for a block on Chase Moran to put Rochester up, 22-17. Gira earned kills on two of the next three points (Rochester had a service error in the middle) and Alexandra Goldman finished the first set win with a kill.
 
In the second set, a 25-6 victory, the Yellowjackets scored 13 of the first 15 points.  Gira's kill put Rochester up, 5-2. Then Connor served seven straight points. The run included two service aces. Jennie Ford had two kills in the run.
 
Cazenovia took advantage of three straight attack errors by Rochester in the third set. The Wildcats pulled within 11-7. The Yellowjackets drew away slowly and won, 25-12.
 
Statistically, Gira led with 11 kills. Ford had six and Goldman had four. Nelligan and Alara Kocak had three. Kohler had 22 assists and three digs. Baek had three aces as did Connor. Ford had two. Kohler, Gira, and Hunter had one apiece. Ford registered 10 digs and Hunter had nine. Four others collected three digs. Gira had one solo block and two block assists.
