Yellowjackets Top Geneseo and Oswego to Win UR Invitational

The University of Rochester completed two more wins to finish a perfect 4-0 and capture the team title at the University of Rochester Volleyball Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
 
The Yellowjackets (6-2) topped SUNY Geneseo (3-5) in four games and followed that up with a convincing 3-0 win over Oswego State (6-4) in the fourth and final game of the tournament.
 
Rochester and SUNY Geneseo were locked in a tight match throughout, with UR coming out with the win 25-22, 25-21, 21-25 and 25-16.  Overall for the match, UR hit .192 with 53 total kills.  The high point of the match was the second set where the Yellowjackets had 18 kills and four errors in 34 attempts for a hitting percentage of .412.

All-Tournament team selection Jennie Ford led UR in kills with 16 in 40 attempts (.225), adding in 18 digs for a double-double performance.  Shira Katz also hit well, smashing 12 kills in 31 attempts (.290) while chipping in three blocks at the net.
 
Alexandra Goldman had seven kills and four blocks while Emma Gira added six kills and four blocks as well.  Gira joined Ford on the eight person All-Tournament team.
 
In the second match of the day, Rochester was on Oswego State from the start and didn't let up until the 3-0 score was in the books.  UR would take the match 25-10, 25-19 and 25-20.
 
Ford again led the Yellowjackets in kills, ending with 10 in the match for a total of 53 over the course of the four tournament matches.  She added six service aces and 10 digs while hitting .273 for the match.
 
Gira was next on UR in kills with nine in 17 attempts for a .353 hitting percentage.  Katz chiupped in 8 kills while Goldman had five kills, three aces and four blocks (3 solo) for the Yellowjackets.
 
In the match, Rochester combined for 40 kills in 97 attempts with 12 errors for a .289 percentage.  UR started out on fire in the first set, hitting .351 to jump out to the early lead.
 
UR took home the team title in the uneven round-robin format with a 4-0 record.  Houghton finished 3-1, St. John Fisher 2-1 to claim the other top three spots.  SUNY Geneseo went 1-3, Oswego St. 1-2 and Hamilton finished 0-4.
 
Joining the two UR players on the All-Tournament Team were St. John Fisher's Kaitlyn Mazierski and Anna Marcy, Hamilton's Jamie Granskie, Houghton's Hattie Burgher, Oswego's Kelsey Dillon and Geneseo's Danielle Sayler.
