All eight University Athletic Association programs were recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as recipients of the organization's Team Academic Award.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
Brandeis University
The Brandeis University volleyball team has been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as AVCA Team Academic Award winners. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. The Judges finished their year with a cumulative team GPA of 3.51.
"I'm thrilled that so many of our student-athletes are being recognized for their hard work in and out of the classroom," said Director of Athletics Lynne Dempsey '93. "Representing Brandeis in athletics and doing well in school have never been mutually exclusive and these teams prove that year in and year out."
Carnegie Mellon University
The 2016 Carnegie Mellon University volleyball program has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for its performance in the classroom by being named a recipient of the AVCA Team Academic Award.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. The Tartans finished the year with a team GPA of 3.45.
Under the direction of head coach Kim Kelly, the Tartans recorded 25 wins for the second consecutive season and earned a berth to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship for the second time in four years. Additionally, Carnegie Mellon finished second in the University Athletic Association for the third time in program history and was ranked as high as 14th nationally during the year.
Contributing to the 3.45 GPA for the Tartans was three student-athletes whom earned a 4.0 during the playing season while two accomplished the feat in the spring.
A total of 485 programs hailing from the three divisions of the NCAA, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the National Junior College Athletic Association were represented on the All-Academic Team. There were 150 D-III teams who made their way on the list.
Case Western Reserve University
The 2016 Case Western Reserve University volleyball team was selected as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, based on the squad's outstanding grade point average during the 2016-17 academic year.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.
A total of 822 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 season, breaking the previous year's total of 762 to set an all-time high. 150 of the teams honored were NCAA Division III programs, the most honored among college divisions.
The Spartans finished the 2016 season with a 21-10 overall record, while posting a 2-5 mark in the University Athletic Association and finishing in sixth place at the UAA Championships.
Emory University
The 2016 Emory volleyball program has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for its performance in the classroom by being named a recipient of that organization's Team Academic Award.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. The Eagles closed out the year with a team GPA of 3.40.
Under the direction of head coach Jenny McDowell, Emory chalked up an overall record of 33-6 and advanced to the NCAA D-III Tournament for the 21ststraight season, where it advanced to the quarterfinals. The Eagles captured the University Athletic Association title and ended the season ranked No. 2 nationally.
A key role in helping Emory earn the AVCA honor was seeing a league-high 11 representatives on the UAA All-Academic Team including Sarah Maher who received a Fall NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

NYU
The New York University women's volleyball team received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.
The Violets were one of 150 Division III teams to earn this award by posting a team GPA of at least 3.30 in the 2016-17 school year.
In addition to the team honor, squad members collected a bevy of individual academic honors this season. Five student-athletes earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Fall Sport All-Academic recognition, and eight were named to the Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee (IAAC) Fall Honor Roll.
On the court, NYU posted an 18-17 overall record in 2016-17, the team's sixth winning record over the past seven seasons.
University of Chicago
The University of Chicago volleyball team picked up a 2016-17 Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Monday.
Now in its 25th year, the AVCA Team Academic Award is given to a college or high school squad that maintains at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
UChicago volleyball owned a 3.49 cumulative team GPA at the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year. On the court, the Maroons posted an 18-11 season record and earned the No. 1 seed in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship. They went 7-0 in UAA Round Robin competition for the first time in program history.
Washington University
The Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, as announced by the association on Monday.
The Bears finished the 2016-17 academic year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.34 and were one of 150 Division III teams to earn the award by posting a team GPA of at least 3.30.
This is the second consecutive season in which the Bears were honored with the AVCA Team Academic Award.
Caroline Dupont and Julianne Malek led WashU in the classroom as both were recipients of the University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Academic Team honors in the fall.
