Tartans Close Gettysburg Battlefield Classic With Four Wins on the Weekend

The Carnegie University women's volleyball finished the weekend with four wins at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic after defeating Johns Hopkins University and Salisbury University on Saturday, September 3. The Tartans improve to 4-0 after winning both matches by the score of 3-1.

In the first match of the day, the Tartans topped Johns Hopkins by the scores of 25-10, 25-19, 21-25 and 26-24. Senior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) led the attack with a hitting percentage of .550 after recording 11 kills and no errors. Junior Heather Holton (Haslett, Mich./Haslett) also tallied double-digit kills with no errors as she put down 10 for the Tartans.  Senior Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) registered 34 assists for the match.

Defensively, sophomore Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy) picked up 17 digs with senior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) digging up 14 attack attempts by the Blue Jays. At the net, Gibbons, Mueller and junior Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) each had three block assists.

The Cardinal and Gray won 25-12, 20-25, 25-14 and 25-10 in the victory over Salisbury. Donohue and Gibbons both tabbed 10 kills to lead Carnegie Mellon with Donohue recording a hitting percentage of .562. Newton tallied 37 assists and junior Hannah Wooten (Hughson, Calif.) totaled three service aces.

Three Tartans registered double-digit digs, as Higgins led the charge with 23. Mueller picked up 12 and Wooten 10. Donohue added three block assists and Newton had two.
