Spartans Complete Sweep at Marcia French Invitational; Improve to 8-0 Overall

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team earned two more wins at home on Saturday, defeating Defiance College 3-1 in the early match and Bethany College 3-2 in the late affair to complete a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Marcia French Invitational, and remain undefeated in 2016 with an 8-0 overall ledger.

CWRU won the team title at the 18th Annual Marcia French Invite. The University of Mount Unionand Baldwin Wallace University finished second after each finishing the tournament with a 3-1 record.

Freshman Haley Sims was named the Spartans representative on the All-Tournament team, after recording 43 kills during the four matches. She added four aces, 10 block assists and 11 digs during the tournament, while hitting .500.

The Spartans opened the day with 23-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-14 win over the Yellow Jackets, paced by freshman Brianna Lemon's 16-kill match. Freshman Karley King added 16 kills on 31 attacks during the match for .419 hitting percentage, while sophomore Shannon Carroll registered 43 assists.

Defiance dropped to 1-5 on the season with the loss.

In the second match of the day against Bethany, the Spartans earned a 3-2 win, 15-25, 25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 15-6. Lemon once again paced the team with 14 kills. Sophomore libero Karina Bondelid contributed with 21 digs, and Carroll collected 40 more assists.

With the loss, Bethany fell to 3-5 overall in 2016.

Case Western Reserve has now won four overall matches by a 3-2 score through its first eight matches this season.
