From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

The 2015 Case Western Reserve University volleyball team was selected as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, based on the squad's outstanding grade point average during the 2015-16 academic year.

The Spartans earned the award by amassing a cumulative 3.56 grade point average as a team.   Earlier in the year, nine members of the team were selected to receive University Athletic Association All-Academic Honors, while senior Carolyn Bogart was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team, and senior Haley Kauffman was recently named to the UAA Presidents Council Scholar-Athlete Team.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

A total of 762 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2015-2016 season, breaking the previous year's total of 757 to set an all-time high. 140 of the teams honored were NCAA Division III programs, the most honored among college divisions.

The Spartans turned in a historical season in 2015, finishing the year with a 25-8 overall record and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships for the first time in the program's history. The team finished third at the 2015 UAA Championships.
