Spartans Earn Pair of 3-0 Victories on Final Day of Carnegie Mellon Mini Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team earned a pair of 3-0 victories against the Messiah College Falcons and the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays on the second and final day of competition at the Carnegie Mellon University Mini Invitational.

The Spartans improved their record to 18-8 overall, while Messiah fell to 21-6 total and Elizabethtown dropped to 6-21 for the season.

Against Messiah, freshman middle hitter Haley Sims led the Spartan attack with a .412 hitting percentage, eight kills and added three block assists. Freshman outside hitter Brianna Lemon recorded eight kills and nine digs. Sophomore setter Shannon Carroll tallied a team-high 17 assists, while also contributing seven kills to the attack. Freshman setter Faith Ellis also helped to setup the Spartan offense by recording a season-high 15 assists. Defensively, sophomore defensive specialist Emily Wolfenbarger tied Lemon for the team-high with nine digs for the match.

In the win over Elizabethtown, the Spartans were led by Lemon and Sims on the attack. Lemon recorded 10 kills and four digs. Sims finished with seven kills. Carroll recorded a game-high 25 assists, while Ellis added 13. Sophomore libero Karina Bondelid led the Spartans defensively, totaling 11 digs.
