Spartans Split on Day 1 of UAA Round Robin #1 With Win Over NYU

On the first day of the University Athletic Association Round Robin # 1, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split, with a win over New York University and a loss to the University of Rochester.

The first UAA Round Robin is hosted by Carnegie Mellon University at the Jared L. Cohon University Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Spartans improve to 13-4 overall and 1-1 in the UAA, while the Violets are now 13-5 overall and 0-2 in the UAA and the Yellowjackets record is now 12-6 overall and 1-1 in the UAA.

CWRU defeated NYU in four sets 20-25, 25-23, 25-15 and 25-21.

Freshman outside hitter Brianna Lemon led the Spartans with 15 kills and freshman middle hitter Haley Sims contributed 13 kills to the attack. Sophomore setter Shannon Carroll recorded a game-high 44 assists. Defensively, sophomore libero Karina Bondelid tallied 17 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Emily Wolfenbarger added 13 to the stats.

Against the Yellowjackets, CWRU fell 17-25, 25-20, 25-21, 20-25 and 11-15.

In the hard-fought battle, senior outside hitter Marian Barton led the Spartans with 13 kills, while Carroll added 41 assists. Bondelid led the defensive rally with 17 digs with Wolfenbarger adding 16.
