Emory Wins Two Sunday UAA Round Robin Matches

The No. 5-ranked Emory volleyball team closed out the University Athletic Association Round Robin II on a successful note on Sunday with a pair of wins. The Eagles started the day with a 3-0 decision (25-7, 25-15, 24-14) over Brandeis before registering a 3-1 outcome against No. 16 Washington University (23-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20).  Emory now stands 21-4 overall, 6-1 in league play. The Eagles will enter the UAA Championships, Nov. 4-5, as the No. 2 seed.

In the match vs. the Judges of Brandeis, Emory dominated from start to finish, recording a .472 (37-3—72) hitting percentage compared to BU's effort of -.037 (19-22—82). It represented the ninth time this year that Emory finished with a hitting percentage of .300 or higher. The senior tandem of Jessica Holler and Sarah Maher each hit .583, with both players finishing with seven kills and no errors in 12 swings. Sophomore Karissa Dzurik led the Eagles with eight terminations while classmate Sydney Leimbach chipped in five successful attack attempts.  Sophomore Becky Breuer led Emory with 10 digs.

Emory had a trio of double-figure terminators in the Wash U battle, led by Holler's 15, her 16th double-figure effort of the year. Holler, who hit. 314 (14-4—35), also topped the squad with five (2-3) total blocks. Freshman Morgan McKnight came through with a big effort, racking up season-high 14 kills, while Maher totaled 11 kills to go along with a match-high tying 24 digs, her fourth "double-double" of the season, two of which came over the weekend. Freshman setter Sarah Porter tied her season high with 46 assists and also added six kills, 10 digs and two service aces. The Eagles hit .256 (60-18—164) in the match compared to the Bears' .199 (48-18—151).  Emory held the slimmest of edges in digs, 75-74 and total blocks, 8-7.
