Three UAA Teams Earn Bids to NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship

UAA champion Emory University will be joined by Carnegie Mellon University and Washington University in the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship.

Emory will make the program's 21st consecutive (22nd overall) tournament appearance when the Eagles travel to Brockport, New York for an NCAA Regional. SUNY Brockport will serve as the host school for the event.

The matches will take place Friday-Sunday, November 11-13, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. 

The Eagles' opening-round foe will by the College of New Rochelle.  That contest is slated for Friday at 3:00 pm, with the winner advancing to Saturday's Regional semifinals to face either Susquehanna University or Clarkson University.

The 21st-ranked Tartans are making their fourth appearance by the Tartans and third under 11-year head coach Kim Kelly after reaching the UAA final for the third time in school history.

Carnegie Mellon will face DePauw University on Thursday, at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., at a time to be determined Tuesday. DePauw (23-5) finished second in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season and conference tournament.

The winner between the Tartans and Tigers will face the winner of Pitt-Bradford (25-5) and No. 1 Calvin (27-1) on Friday, November 11. Calvin will be making its 26th NCAA tournament appearance and have played for the national championship on four occasions, including winning it in 2013 and 2010 with a second-place finish in 2012.

The No. 14-ranked Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team will travel to Whitewater, Wis., for its NCAA Division III Regional Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 10-12, as announced Monday by the NCAA.

The Bears finished the regular season with a 22-10 overall record. The Bears will be the third seed in the Whitewater Regional that features five teams ranked in the top-25 of last week's AVCA Division III poll. WashU faces Heidelberg in the opening round at 12:30 p.m. (CT) Thursday. The teams have met once already this season, as the Bears pulled out a 3-2 win in Springfield, Ohio.

The other three regional quarterfinal matches will feature No. 20 Wisconsin-Oshkosh against Bluffton University at 3 p.m., No. 10 Hope versus No. 18 Elmhurst at 5:30 p.m. and regional host No. 11 Wisconsin-Whitewater against Greenville College at 8 p.m.

WashU has won an NCAA Division III record 10 national championships, including most recently in 2009. The Bears are making their 30th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and are 98-20 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
