Violets Improve Win Streak to Nine

The New York University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to nine matches with a pair of wins at the Baruch Tri-Match, hosted by Baruch College on Saturday, September 24, in Manhattan. NYU first defeated St. Mary's College of Maryland in four sets, before knocking off the hosts in three sets.

"We performed well today, we played collectively," explained Head Coach Jolie Ward.

NYU (11-3) dropped the first set to St. Mary's (11-4) 25-16, but battled back to take the next three frames 25-20, 25-17 and 25-20. The Violets attacked at a .220 percentage in the contest, recording 43 kills in 127 attacks, and making just 15 errors.

The squad then took the momentum they gained in their first match of the day and defeated Baruch (5-11) 25-15, 25-17, 25-10. Although NYU gave up the most points in the second set, they attacked at a .400 percentage, their best of the day. 

Highlights vs. St. Mary's (MD):

- Caroline Rapp finished with a double-double, recording 10 kills and 13 digs.

- Jenna Dickey and Annie Singh also finished with 10 kills to help lead a balanced attack up front.

- Katie Goyette finished with 26 assists to lead NYU. 

Highlights vs Baruch:

- Rapp once again finished with a double-double, this time notching a match-best 12 kills and 10 digs.

- Zel Fortson recorded 26 assists to lead all players.

- Stephanie Mao led the Violets with 16 digs.

"Annie (Singh) and Caroline (Rapp) played well for us throughout the day," added Ward.
