Yellowjackets Split On Final Day of New York Regional Challenge

From University of Rochester Athletics

The University of Rochester closed out the regular season by splitting two matches at the New York Regional Challenge on Saturday, hosted at Hunter College.

UR (22-10) lost its opening match in three tight sets to Stevens Institute of Technology (29-4) before defeating Nazareth (21-9) by a 3-0 score.  The Stevens match went to the Ducks 25-16, 26-24 and 25-23 while the Yellowjackets took the Nazareth match 25-18, 25-19 and 25-15.

In the Stevens match, UR's Clara Martinez led the way with 11 kills while teammate Alexandra Nelligan added 10 kills in the loss.  Aimee Kohler dished out 36 assists and had four digs while Courtney Vidovich (15), Meghan Connor (14) and Sara Apanavicius (13) had double-digit digs.

Martinez again led UR in kills in the Nazareth match, recording 11 in addition to six digs.  Alexandra Goldman and Kate Korslund added four each while Kohler had 26 assists, 6 digs, 3 kills and 3 aces.  Vidovich and Apanavicius had nine digs each.  Goldman was the leading blocker with five (1 solo, 4 assists).

The win over Nazareth is UR's second this season, as the Yellowjackets previously topped the Golden Flyers on senior day 10 days ago by a 3-2 score.  In that match, Rochester had to rally from 0-2 down to win the final three sets to steal the match.

Numerous season milestones were hit in Saturday's action.  Both Shira Katz and Goldman reached 200 kills in 2016 as they both sit at 201 following play in the Nazareth match.  Vidovich reached 200 digs on the year while Goldman cleared 100 blocks for the first time in her career.
