Yellowjackets Defeat NYU in Four Sets to Finish First Round Robin 2-1

Rochester hit extremely well over the last two matches to ensure a 3-1 victory over NYU at the University Athletic Association round robin being conducted at Carnegie Mellon University. The Yellowjackets lost the first game, 21-25, They evened the match with a 25-19 win in game two, edged in front with a 25-18 win in game three, and completed the victory with a 25-8 win in game four.

UR hit .395 to win game three and a sparking .;450 to win game four. The Yellowjackets hit .297 for the entire match. Rochester boosted its record to 13-6 overall, 2-1 in the UAA. NYU is 13-6 overall as well, 0-3 in the first round robin. The second round robin comes up in two weeks' time at Brandeis University. Rochester will face Brandeis, Washington, Chicago, and Carnegie Mellon in round robin two. The UAA Championships will be held at Washington University in St. Louis in early November.

This was one of the most balanced efforts of the season. Four players had 10 or more kills. Seven had service aces and six had blocks.

Aimee Kohler, who dished 52 assists in the five-set win over Case on Saturday, had 41 assists against the Violets. She also had two aces, two blocks, and eight digs.; Meghan Connor had three aces to lead the way in that category. She also had 17 digs. Shira Katz had eight kills, two blocks, an ace, and 11 digs. 

Clara Martinez was the attack leader with 13 kills, hitting .444. Beth Ghyzel had 11 kills and hit .435. Alexandra Nelligan and Alexandra Goldman had 10 kills apiece. Martinez added two aces and three blocks. Goldman also supplied three blocks. Ghyzel had eight blocks and a pair of digs.
