#24 Carnegie Mellon Sweeps Saint Vincent

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team, ranked 24th nationally, hosted the Bearcats of Saint Vincent College on Wednesday, September 6 and swept the match in three sets by the scores of 25-12, 25-5, 25-13. The win improves the Tartans record to 5-0 while the Bearcats move to 3-2.

Carnegie Mellon hit a season-best .450 in the win. For the third time this season junior Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy) recorded double digit kills and led the Tartans with 12. Sophomore Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and junior Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) each finished with six. It marked a career-best for Foose.

Junior Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas) recorded a career-best six service aces in the victory, as the Tartans totaled 13 as a team. Sophomore Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) tallied 20 assists with junior Amanda Thiele (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins) handing out 11. Sophomore Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) led the Cardinal and Gray with 17 digs.

The Tartans will next play at the 19th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational held in Cleveland, Ohio on the campuses of Case Western Reserve University and Baldwin Wallace University. Carnegie Mellon will begin play on Friday, September 8 against John Carroll University at 7:30 p.m. at Case Western Reserve.
