From Case Western Reserve University Athletics
On the first day of the Carnegie Mellon University Tournament, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split, with a win over Geneva College and a loss to Otterbein University.
The Spartans improve to 9-5 overall, while the Tornadoes are now 3-10 and the Cardinals record is now 12-0.
CWRU defeated Geneva in straight sets 25-16, 25-23 and 25-11.
Sophomore outside hitter Brianna Lemon led the Spartans with nine kills, and sophomore middle hitter Haley Sims and sophomore outside hitter Karley King each contributed eight kills to the attack. Sophomore setter Faith Ellis recorded 18 assists, while freshman setter Jiayi Shen added 16 to the Spartan total. Defensively, Lemon tallied a team-high 14 digs and junior libero Noel Jeansonne recorded eight digs.
Against the Cardinals, CWRU fell 29-27, 25-11 and 25-16.
In the hard-fought battle, Lemon led the Spartans with 10 kills, while Ellis and Shen totaled 14 and 10 assists, respectively. Lemon led the defensive rally with eight digs, while Ellis and Shen tallied seven apiece.
