Spartans Splits on Day 1 of Ohio Northern Tournament

On the first day of the Ohio Northern Tournament in Ada, Ohio, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split, with a loss to host and 22nd-ranked Ohio Northern University and a win over Thomas More College.

The Spartans begin the 2017 season 1-1 and head into the second day of the Ohio Northern Tournament. Ohio Northern improved to 1-0 on the season, while Thomas More dropped to 0-1 on the campaign.

Against the Polar Bears, CWRU fell by scores of 18-25, 25-22, 25-21 and 25-15.

Statistically, sophomore outside hitter Brianna Lemon posted a team-best 13 kills and also added 13 digs. Sophomore setter Faith Ellis led in assists with 38, while sophomore libero Christine Tamura led the defensive rally with 18 digs. Sophomore Haley Sims contributed 10 kills and a team-high four blocks.

Ohio Northern was led by Haley Potters and Chelsea Huppert with 19 and 15 kills, respectively.

In the second match of the day, CWRU defeated Thomas More by scores 21-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22.

Sophomore Karley King led the Spartans with 14 kills and Sims contributed 13 kills to the attack. Ellis rounded up a career-high 55 assists. In the back court for the Spartans, Lemon tallied 19 digs and Tamura added 17 to the stats.
