The No.-7 ranked Emory University Volleyball program became the first team to clinch a spot in the national quarterfinals following a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-18) decision over Berry College in the Atlanta Regional Championship match Saturday night, played inside the Woodruff PE Center.
The Eagles did not drop a set across three regional matches, earning a spot in the Round of Eight for the second consecutive season and 10th time overall in program history. With the win on Saturday, Emory secured its 11th straight 30-win season, improving to 30-6. Berry rounded out its year with a 30-7 overall record including its first trip to a NCAA Regional Final.
Emory hit .232 on the evening (39-13—112) and held the Vikings to a .149 (35-18—114) hitting percentage. The Eagles held a 54-48 edge in digs while the teams tied in the total blocks department, 9-9.
Sophomore Sara Carr tallied a match-high 11 kills as the lone Eagle to record double figures in that category. Carr averaged of double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs during the regional as she was named the Most Outstanding Player.
Classmate Morgan McKnight added nine kills in the regional clinching win and joined Carr on the All-Regional team. Fellow sophomore Elyse Thompson was the third Eagle to garner All-Tournament honors as she averaged 14.6 digs and three service aces. On Saturday, Thompson registered 17 digs and five aces to lead both teams.
The final rounds of the NCAA DIII Volleyball Championship will begin on Thursday, November 16th with the NCAA Quarterfinals.
