Emory Sweeps No. 6 Juniata

The No. 4-ranked Emory volleyball team maintained its winning ways on Saturday evening with a victory over No. 6 Juniata College in the final match of the Emory National Classic.  The Eagles won for the seventh straight time and boosted their overall ledger to 8-1 following a 3-0 decision (27-25, 25-20, 25-18) over the similarly-named Eagles who slipped to 7-3.

Defense was name of the game throughout the contest with both squads hitting under .100 for the night. Emory finished with a .096 – .073 edge in that category, the seventh straight match it has hit for a better percentage, while holding a decisive 68-55 cushion in total digs.

Sophomore Morgan McKnight topped all players with 14 kills, her eighth match of double digits this season, and finished with a blistering .462 hitting mark (14-2—26). Junior Sydney Leimbach totaled 10 terminations, hit .389 (10-3—18) and contributed a total of four blocks (2-2).  Sophomores Elyse Thompsonand Andie McKinnon led the Eagles with 19 and 12 digs, respectively.

Prior to the match, former All-American Sydney Miles was honored for her accomplishments during her four-year career (2012-15).  After playing professionally in Israel in 2016, she returned to the program where she serves on the coaching staff.

The Eagles return to action next Friday and Saturday (Sept. 22-23) when they compete at the Transylvania Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky.
