Julianne Malek of Washington University Awarded Sports Imports/AVCA National Weekly Honor

Junior Julianne Malek of the No. 20 Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team was named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Player of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 17, as announced by the organizations.

Malek is the 20th individual in WashU history to earn National Player of the Week honors and the award marks the 28th in program history. She helped WashU clinch the second seed in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships as the Bears posted a 4-0 record during Round Robin #2, which garnered UAA Athlete of the Week honors as well.

In total, Malek tallied 42 kills with a team leading .402 hitting percentage while averaging a team best 3.23 kills per set. The middle hitter's dominant form helped WashU to victories over No. 4 Emory and No. 13 Chicago. The Bears improved to 4-2 against AVCA Top-25 teams this season.

The Woodlands, Texas-native ranks third in all of Division III and first within the UAA in hitting percentage with a .415 clip. Malek also ranks fifth in points per set (3.43), eighth in total blocks (56) and ninth in total kills (233) in the UAA.
