Emory University to Host UAA Volleyball Championship; Carnegie Mellon Seeded First

Emory University will serve as host of the 2017 UAA Volleyball Championship Friday and Saturday. Carnegie Mellon University enters the championship as the top seed after posting a 6-1 record in UAA round robin play.

Carnegie Mellon (27-3), which reached the championship match a year ago, seeks its first UAA title. The top seeds are ranked ninth in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Poll. 

Washington University (21-9), which captured its 21st Association title in 2015, is seeded second in the championship and ranked 19th in the AVCA poll.

University of Chicago (22-6). is seeded third and ranked 20th. The Maroons won the UAA title in 2013.

Host Emory (25-5) enters the championship tournament ranked seventh in Division III and are seeded fourth. The Eagles won their seventh UAA title last season.

Case Western Reserve University (17-11), the only team to defeat Carnegie Mellon in round robin play, are seeded fifth.

University of Rochester (18-11) is the sixth seed and have won six of its last seven matches.

NYU (10-20) has also won six of its last seven matches and enters the weekend as the seventh seed.

Brandeis University (15-11), the eighth seed, is riding a four-match winning streak.

Play opens at noon on Friday with Carnegie Mellon facing Brandeis and Washington University playing NYU. The championship match is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The UAA champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship.
