University of Chicago Volleyball Knocks Off #3 Emory; Completes Unbeaten UAA Weekend

The No. 25 University of Chicago volleyball team won its ninth-straight match and knocked off the No. 3 team in the country in the process, topping Emory 3-1 to cap an unbeaten conference weekend for the Maroons Sunday. 

UChicago (15-3, 3-0 University Athletic Association) hit a stellar .231 and held the Eagles (14-2, 2-1) to just .098 in a dominant victory to conclude the UAA Round Robin #1 hosted at Case Western Reserve. Emory won the opening match, 25-18, then responded by sweeping the next three sets, 25-17, 25-10, and 25-21. 

Annabella Pinton and Audrey Scrafford each totaled 13 kills, Emma Griffith delivered 33 assists and 17 digs, and libero Anne Marie Stifter recorded a team-best 20 digs to lead the Maroons, who haven't lost since Sept. 16 in a setback against then-ranked #14 Gustavus-Adolphus. 

UChicago's defense was stellar all match, totaling 78 digs as junior Sarah Muisenga added 16 to go along with 10 kills and Katherine Wilson had 10 digs. 

Madeleine Bol led the charge at the net, finishing with three block assists and teammates Griffith, Pinton and Madison Pearson (one solo block) added two apiece. 

Set four was a stunner for the Maroons, who hit an astounding .346 and held the Eagles to just 10 points. 

Scrafford and Pinton were efficient in their attacks, hitting .270 and .286, respectively. 

Morgan McKnight finished with 10 kills, Mady Arles had 18 assists and Elyse Thompson chipped in 29 digs to lead Emory in the loss. 

For the Maroons, Sunday's win marked the third victory of the season over a ranked team after UChicago topped thne-ranked No. 8 Millikin and No. 25 Cornell last weekend at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.
