Chicago Takes Down Concordia-Moorhead

The University of Chicago volleyball team got back into the win column with a 3-0 sweep of Concordia College – Moorhead on Friday evening at the Nike/Eastbay Fall Classic.

The Maroons improved to 6-2 on the season while the Cobbers dropped to 1-6.

UChicago 3, Concordia-Moorhead 0 (25-16, 25-15, 28-26)

UChicago's offense was humming along in the opening two sets, as the Maroons posted hitting percentages of .361 and .462, respectively. Meanwhile, Concordia-Moorhead struggled on its side of the court, which included a -.037 hit percentage in the second set.

Junior rightside hitter Sarah Muisenga's three-straight kills in the first set put her team up 11-7 in the opener. At 13-11, UChicago then rattled off five points consecutively and closed out the set from there, 25-16.

In the second set, the Maroons bounded away to a 9-3 start. An 8-1 run near the end of the game secured a quick 2-0 lead.

The third set played much more evenly. After going past 25 points in the see-saw battle, sophomore outside hitter Anabella Pinton finished off the night with a kill to win it, 28-26.

Pinton was highly efficient throughout as she made no attacking errors. The sophomore put up a team-high 13 kills for a .565 hitting percentage. Muisenga was not far behind with 12 kills, nine digs and a .435 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Audrey Scrafford added 11 kills.

Freshman setter Emma Griffith dished out 41 assists. Defensively, sophomore middle hitter Madeleine Bol collected four blocks and sophomore libero Anne Marie Stifter registered 14 digs.
