Rochester Rallies To Split Two Matches At Union

The University of Rochester posted a comeback win over host Union College to salvage a split of two matches during a tri-match of non-league matches on Saturday afternoon.
 
Rochester dropped its opening match against Kean University 3-1 before rallying from 0-2 down against Union for a 3-2 win.  The two victories push UR's record to 9-5 on the season.
 
Kean ended up winning the first two sets 25-22 to control the opening match.  UR won the third set 25-18, but the Cougars closed out their seventh straight match with a 25-19 win in the fourth.
 
Leading the way for UR in the opening match was Alara Kocak who pounded 20 kills, one shy of her career high in the loss.  First-year Allie DeRubertis added 11 kills, two blocks and six digs while sophomore Beth Ghyzel had 9 kills, 9 digs and 28 assists.

Tamera Shaw chipped in six kills while Megan McHughadded four.  Courtney Vidovich had 26 digs and Renae Lapins added 18 assists.
 
In the nightcap, the Dutchwomen took a tight first set 26-24, fighting off multiple match points.  In the second, Union took a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 win in the second.  Rochester then turned the tables, capturing the third set 25-16 and the fourth 25-21 before completing the comeback with a 15-11 win in the fifth.
 
Ghyzel finished with a triple-double for Rochester, with 10 kills, 10 assists and 12 digs, also adding three blocks and three aces in the win.  Kocak had 13 kills and four digs while DeRubertis had 11 kills, four blocks and four digs while hitting a team best .321 in the match.
 
McHugh had five kills and five blocks while Elizabeth Thomas added four kills and five blocks.  As a team, the Yellowjackets had 11 blocks total.
 
Four players had double-digit digs in the Union match, with Vidovich getting 31 while Lapins and Lydia Barnard had 13 and 11 respectively.  Lapins also had 29 assists and three aces.
