Four UAA volleyball student-athletes were named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Volleyball Team.
The team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separatelyrecognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December. The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided intoeight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. -
The UAA honorees:
Karley King, Case Western Reserve University
This is the second career All-District honor for King. By being named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District first team, she will be placed on the ballot for the Academic All-America team which will be announced on Wednesday, December 12th.
King, an All-UAA First Team selection and an All-UAA Academic honoree, finished the regular season with a .245 hitting percentage, and led the team with 362 kills (3.26 per set). Her 362 kills and 3.26 kills per set ranked third among all University Athletic Association players during the regular season. She also gathered 115 digs and 51 total blocks throughout the season. Over her three years as a Spartan, King has totaled 789 kills (2.48 per set), 205 digs and 140 total blocks.
King carries a 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a Biomedical Engineering major at CWRU.
Emma Griffith, University of Chicago
Griffith received Academic All-District Volleyball honors as a setter. The sophomore law, letters & society major was one of the top players at her position nationally. She led a top 13 offense in the nation with a .244 team hitting percentage and finished second in NCAA Division III with 1,367 assists. Additionally, she posted 44 services aces, 396 digs (3.17 per set) and 39 blocks. At season's end, Griffith was picked as First Team All-University Athletic Association, American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region, and AVCA Honorable Mention All-America.
Courtney Vidovich, University of Rochester
Vidovich, majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Clinical Psychology has a 3.94 GPA through the spring of 2018 semester. She has received the Dean's Scholarship from the University and has served as a teaching assistant in chemistry during her sophomore year. Vidovich also was a three-time UAA All-Academic selection and was honored with a UR Garnish Scholar award earlier in the fall. She also was Provost Circle Scholar and has earned Dean's list accolades every semester while at Rochester.
She is currently working at Rochester General Hospital in the Emergency Department as a scribe, documenting the patient/physician communication process. Vidovich also was a summer surgical intern at the Reading Health Department of Surgery where she worked side-by-side with surgeons across a multitude of specialties. The senior also spent last year interning at Strong Memorial Hospital in the Physical Medicine and Rehabhilitation Department working with the Neuropsychology Services.
Vidovich's volunteer work includes the Wish-In-One for Chi Omega as well as working with the rest of her volleyball team in hosting spring clinics and practices with the School of the Arts team. She also is a pen pal with two students from East High School, mentoring the high school students throughout the school year and has become a Crisis Text Line Volunteer.
On the volleyball court, Vidovich appeared in 120 matches over her four years, accumulating over 1,000 digs, ending her career with 1,071, for an average of 2.75 per set (390 sets played). She also added 63 total kills, 128 assists and 123 service aces. In 2017, her 4.93 digs per set ranks her 6th in a single-season at UR.
Julianne Malek, Washington University
Malek is an accounting and organization & strategic management major with a minor in Spanish at WashU and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.68. She not only led the Bears in hitting percentage but currently leads Division III with a .438 mark. Additionally, Malek was awarded American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) First Team All-America honors while tallying 355 kills, 107 blocks and 50 service aces.
