Julianne Malek of Washington University Selected to Google Cloud Academic All-America Third Team

Senior Julianne Malek of the Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team was announced to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III Third Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Malek is the ninth individual in WashU volleyball history to earn the honor and her selection marks the 12th overall in program history. Previous WashU honorees include: Chris Becker (1986, Second Team), Amy Sullivan (1992, First; 1993, First), Amy Albers (1993, First; 1994, First), Shelley Swan (1995, First), Jennifer Martz (1998, Second), Alli Alberts (2008, Second), Marilee Fisher (2011, Third; 2012, Second) and Caroline Dupont (2015, Second).

The Woodlands, Texas-native is an accounting and organization & strategic management major with a minor in Spanish at WashU and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.68. Malek finished with a Division III leading .438 hitting percentage while totaling 355 kills, 107 blocks and 50 service aces on the season. She was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America First Team this season and concluded her career with 1,029 kills, which ranks 27th in program history.

"Julianne has always placed a high priority on developing and improving all aspects of her life," shared WashU head coach Vanessa Walby. "It is no surprise to me that she has achieved All-American status both athletically and academically. Her main reason for choosing WashU was to be able to achieve at a high level academically and athletically."

To be eligible for nomination to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, and must be a starter or an important reserve.
