Top-Seeded University of Chicago to Host UAA Volleyball Championship Friday and Saturday

University of Chicago will serve as host of the 2019 UAA Volleyball Championship Friday and Saturday. The second-ranked Maroons enter the championship as the top seed after posting a 7-0 record in UAA round robin play.

The Maroons (24-2) are the second-ranked squad in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Poll. The championship marks the third time UChicago is seeded first (2013 and 2016). The Maroons won their only UAA title in 2013.

Defending Association and NCAA Division III champion and top-ranked Emory University (26-2) is seeded second in the championship. The Eagles have won eight UAA titles, all since 2005.

Washington University (22-7) and 19th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University (21-5) are seeded third and fourth, respectively. The Bears have won 22 UAA titles, including 2017.

 

NYU (24-6) comes in as the fifth seed and will face the Tartans in the quarterfinals.

Case Western Reserve University, Brandeis University, and University of Rochester are seeded sixth through eighth.

 

Play opens at noon (CT) on Friday with UChicago facing Rochester and Emory playing Brandeis. The championship match is set for 1 p.m. (CT) on Saturday.

The UAA champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship.
