Chicago Women’s Cross Country Wins NCAA Midwest Regional

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's cross country team won its first regional title in program history with a dominant performance at the 2013 NCAA Division III Cross Country Midwest Regional on Saturday.

The Maroons topped the 38-team field with a final score of 60. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse was a distant second with 101. With the win, UChicago clinched its fourth-straight bid to the NCAA Division III Championship as a team.

Six of the seven Maroons placed in the top 35 and earned All-Region recognition. Sophomore Catherine Young set the pace for UChicago once again, finishing in third place out of 282 runners with a time of 21:41.0. Senior Michaela Whitelaw also placed in the top 10 with a seventh-place showing in 22:08.1. Senior Elise Wummer (14th), sophomore Brianna Hickey (16th) and sophomore Karin Gorski (21st) all finished in the top 25 individually. Sophomore Maggie Cornelius was 33rd in a time of 22:46.0.
