From Emory University Athletics
The Emory women's cross country team turned in a first-place
finish at the Gulf Coast Stampede Saturday morning. The event
was held at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola,
Florida.
The 29th-ranked women's side took claimed the top spot
out of seven teams with 25 points while Harding University placed
second with 45 points. Host school West Florida held down the
No. 3 position (79 pts.) while Point University (94) and
Auburn-Montgomery (158 pts.) rounded out the top five. The
Eagles captured two of the top three and four of the top six
individual finishers led by senior Tamara Surtees who posted a 5K
time of 18:51 that was second in the 80-runner field. Junior
Marissa Gogniat posted a mark of 18:57 that was good for third
place while the senior tandem of Stephanie Crane (19:04) and Elise
Viox (19:15) registered fifth- and sixth-place finishes,
respectively. Rounding out the squad's scorers was freshman
Halle Markel, whose performance of 19:25 was good for
10th place.
