The New York University women's cross country team took part in the Monmouth Invitational, hosted by Monmouth University on Saturday, September 20, in Holmdel, NJ.

Even with the team leaders skipping the meet in preparation for the Pre-Nationals next weekend, the Violets excelled in the Division III team competition, scoring 22 points for the first place among six schools. Second place was taken by Georgian Court University (46 points), while third place went to Ocean County College (77 points).

"We had a great race," said Head Coach Will-Boylan Pett. "The competition was serious. There were mostly Division I athletes in the race, so we had to work hard all the way. We did a good job, with a focus being on next weekend's race. It will be a big one for us."

A total of 171 runners took part in the women's 5K race.

Highlights:

- Junior Sarah Sisk was the fastest among the Violets, placing fourth among non-Division I runners and 74th overall, with a time of 20:57.2.

"Sarah Sisk definitely produced a highlight of the day," Boylan-Pett explained. " She will keep getting more and more into her best shape. She is more of a 800m runner on the track, so she needs more long-distance racing experience."

- Other runners to score for the team were sophomore Justine Morris (21:11.5 for sixth place), freshman Hannah Haley (21:11.9, seventh), junior Becky Turlip (21:14.5, eighth) and senior Christina Nunez (22:03.0, 11th).
