From NYU Athletics
The New York University women's cross country team participated
in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championship hosted by
the University of Rochester at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester,
NY, on Saturday, November 15.
The Violets were missing one of their leaders, last year's
all-American Lily Corsaro, and they didn't succeed
in defending their regional title. The NYU squad came in ninth with
a total of 287 points. The victory went to Saint Lawrence
University (50 points).
Senior Sarah Czuprynski was the top
finisher for the Violets, taking
12th place with a time of 22:00.5 and
earning All-Region honors.
"Lily Corsaro has been having knee issues for a
while, so we decided that it's better to make sure we have her
healthy for the rest of the year," explained Head
Coach Will Boylan-Pett. "The team definitely raced
well today. Everyone did their best. I'm proud of Sarah
Czuprynski's performace. She was running strong all the way
to make sure she qualified for Nationals. I think, she should be in
the mix there."
A total of 40 teams and 272 runners competed over the 6K
course.
"The weather today was good for the race," said Boylan-Pett. "It
was a little windy, the temperature was in high 30-ies, a little
chilly, but it's not bad for cross country. The course consisted of
three 2K loops and it was well prepped."
Highlights:
- Other scorers for the Violets were sophomore Kassi
Chrysanthopoulos (39th place, 22:50.6),
junior Sarah Sisk (73rd place,
23:27.9), freshman Emily
Dethlefs (79th place, 23:35.2), and
sophomore Erica
Bohdan (84th place, 23:40.0).
- NYU didn't get an automatic qualification for the upcoming NCAA
DIII Championship to be held on November 22 (the top two teams in
each region qualify automatically), but Czuprynski is a contender
for an individual bid.
The official confirmation for all qualifiers will be announced
within several days.
