NYU Places Third at Pre-Nationals

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's cross country team competed at the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals, hosted by Wilmington College at Kings Island Golf Course in Mason, OH, on Saturday, September 27.

The Violets took third place among 27 teams. The NYU runners scored 160 points and were just five points away from second-place Mount Union College. SUNY Geneseo won the meet with a total of 34 points.

"It was the first big invitational meet for us this season and it went really well," noted the Head Coach Will Boylan-Pett. "One of our top runners Sarah Sisk was sick, so she didn't finish. Even without her we managed to take third place, which is a good result."

Last year's cross country All-American, junior Lily Corsaro, was the first Violet to cross the finish line. Corsaro took 14th place in 21:36.19.

"Lily was way up there among the leaders, in the race for a long time," said Boylan-Pett. "She has a lingering injury that started to bother her a little in the end so she backed off. But she said she felt strong. Her start, at a 5:30 min per mile pace, probably took a little out of her. We're still in a more of a strength based stage of training, so we're getting to our top speeds."

321 runners took part in the 6K race, held at the course of this season's NCAA Division III Championship.
