The New York University women's cross country team opened its 2014 campaign at the Saratoga Invitational, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Saratoga Springs, NY, on Saturday, September 13.
The Violets accumulated a total of 87 points to take third
place behind Saint Lawrence University (41 points) and Williams
College (43 points) in the 14-team competition.
"It was a great race for us," said new Head Coach Will
Boylan-Pett. "We were able to stay in the mix with some good
teams that have high regional rankings. It was the season opener
for us, so we're still far away from our peak shape."
Last year's cross country All-American, junior Lily
Corsaro, was the best finisher among the Violets. She took
ninth place in 17:54 in the 5k race. Senior Sarah
Czuprynski was just outside of the top-10, taking 11th
in 17:57.
"It was a great effort by Lily. She went out hard and held it to
finish in the top-10," Boylan-Pett added.
Overall, 201 runners competed.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- NYU freshman Maggie Lalowski was the fastest
among the newcomers, finishing 21st in 18:15.

who finished 28th in 18:30.
