Chicago Teams Garner Academic Honors From USTFCCCA

The University of Chicago men's and women's cross country teams recently received academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Additionally, nine Maroon student-athletes were named as USTFCCCA All-Academic individuals.

A total of 363 cross country teams (211 women's, 152 men's) earned All-Academic Team status. The UChicago women achieved a team GPA of 3.58 and the women posted a team GPA of 3.56. In order to qualify as All-Academic, programs must have a cumulative GPA or 3.10 or greater and competed in at least five different meets with at least five runners representing their school at each.

Seven women and two men were picked as All-Academic individuals from UChicago out of a nationwide total of 573 Division III selections. The women were represented by junior Maggie Cornelius, freshman Claire Costelloe, junior Brianna Hickey, freshman Cassidy McPherson, senior Isabella Penido, freshman Megan Verner-Crist and junior Catherine Young. The men were represented by junior Michael Frasco and sophomore Nick Nielsen. Honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and have finished in the top 25 percent at NCAA regionals.
