Washington University in St. Louis seniors Lucy Cheadle and Drew Padgett were selected as the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Athletes of the Week, as announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Cheadle clocked a winning time of 21:03 on the 6K course to win the women's individual title at the Wheaton Gil Dodds Invite Saturday in Warrenville, Ill. She defeated the runner-up in the field of 212 runners by nearly a minute to lead the No. 19-ranked Washington U. women to a tie for first in the team standings with No. 6 Oberlin College. Cheadle's winning time at the Gil Dodds Invite was just two seconds off her career-best 6K time.

Padgett raced to the championship in the men's race at the Wheaton Gil Dodds Invite. He crossed the finish line of the 8K race in 24:47 to win the individual title and lead the No. 11 Washington U. men to a runner-up finish in the team standings behind No. 5 Central College (Iowa). Padgett won the race by more than 30 seconds over the runner-up in the field of 225 runners. It was his third time receiving the USTFCCCA Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor in his career, after also earning the accolade twice last year.
