Washington Hosts UAA Cross Country Championships Saturday

From Washington University Athletics

Washington University in St. Louis will serve as the host for the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday, Nov. 1, at Central Fields in Forest Park. The men's 8K race is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m., followed by the women's race at 12:15 p.m.

The Washington University men will aim for their fifth consecutive conference title after defeating runner-up New York University and third-place University of Chicago at last year's meet. On the women's side, Chicago will try to defend its title for a third straight year. The Maroons defeated runner-up NYU and third-place Brandeis University at last year's championships.

Nine women's runners who earned all-UAA honors last year return to compete at this year's meet. The group is led by two-time defending champion Lucy Cheadle of Washington University. Cheadle will try to become the first women's runner in UAA history to win three consecutive conference titles. Also returning from the 2013 women's all-UAA teams are last year's runner-up Catherine Young (Chicago), Lily Corsaro (NYU), Kelsey Aamoth (Case Western Reserve University), Sarah Czuprynski (NYU), Maddie Dolins (Brandeis), Brianna Hickey (Chicago), Catherine Knox (University of Rochester), and Tamara Surtees (Emory University).

In the men's race, five individual all-UAA honorees from 2013 are back, led by defending champion Drew Padgett of Washington U. The other four men's all-UAA runners returning from last season are Garrett Patrick (Washington U.), Dharan Kadiyala (NYU), Sebastian Oja (NYU) and Ryan Senci (Washington U.).

Following Saturday's two races, there will be a short awards ceremony to recognize the 28 individual all-UAA honorees, as well as the two team champions.
