Emily Bryson of Brandeis Caps Stellar Rookie Campaign With All-America Honors

From Brandeis University Athletics

Brandeis University rookie Emily Bryson of Quincy, Mass., earned All-America honors today at the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winnicone, Wisconsin, hosted by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

Bryson finished the six-kilometer course in 21:44.50, her best time of the season for a 6K race by six seconds. Running back in the pack through the first kilometer, Bryson moved up nicely by the second, moving into 36th place. She was a strong 16:29 just under the five-kilometer mark and finished in a large pack about 32 seconds behind the leader.

Bryson was the third runner from the University Athletic Association and the seventh New England to cross the finish line. She was also the second true freshman to cross the finish line at the championship meet.

Bryson is only the third Brandeis freshman – in any sport – since 2000 to win All-America honors. The most recent was Carley Cooke '15 of the women's tennis team in 2011. Bryson is the first-ever freshman from the women's cross country program named All-American.

The overall individual champion was Abrah Masterson of Cornell (Iowa) College, while Williams College ended Johns Hopkins' three-year reign as team champions.
